Autumn Weather Forecast — What South Africans Can Expect

Gauteng and Interior Provinces
Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga can expect near-normal to below-normal rainfall during the autumn months as the wet season draws to a close. Temperatures will gradually cool, with Johannesburg average highs dropping from approximately 26 degrees Celsius in March to 20 degrees in May. Morning mist and fog may affect visibility during April and May.
Western Cape — The Wet Season Begins
The Western Cape enters its winter rainfall season from May onwards. Cape Town residents can expect the first significant winter fronts to arrive in late April and May, bringing cooler temperatures and increased rainfall. The Boland and Overberg areas typically see the earliest and heaviest autumn rainfall in the Western Cape.
KwaZulu-Natal and the East Coast
KwaZulu-Natal will continue to experience some rainfall in March and April before drying out in May. Durban will see warm to mild temperatures throughout autumn, with averages ranging from 25 degrees in March to 21 degrees in May. The South Coast is expected to be drier than average based on current models.
